William John Trella Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

William J. Trella, age 88 of Portage, passed away on July 12, 2022, at home with his loving family at his bedside. He was born on September 8, 1933 in East Chicago to John and Ann Trella. Bill graduated from Hammond Tech High School and Indiana University. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann Trella, sister, Margaret Trella, and in-laws Ray and Betty Kearby. Bill was survived by his wife, Beth Trella; daughter, Tracy Hughes (Keith); granddaughter, Haley McCleary; grandson, Zachary Hughes (Hayley McCumber); brother-in-law, Bill Kearby (Debbie Allen); nephew, Bryan Kearby and three special grand puppies (Ryder, Chewy and Oreo). Bill served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was employed by the United Steelworkers of America as a staff rep and at Universal Atlas Cement. Bill loved golfing with his special brother-in-law Bill Kearby and grandson Zachary. He loved traveling to The Villages in Florida and Las Vegas. Bill will be remembered for being a sweet, loving man that would always help anyone in need. He loved his family dearly. A special thank you to Dunes Hospice Maggie, Amber and Chaplain Joe. Your loving care was deeply appreciated. Per Bill’s request, there will be a direct cremation and a private celebration of life at a later date.
