November 11, 1961 - August 28, 2021
Victoria "Vicki" (Farmer) Mearse, age 59 of Valparaiso, IN passed away on Saturday, August 28, 2021 in Valparaiso, IN. She was born on November 11, 1961 in Blue Island, IL to Turner and Judy (Kuchta) Farmer. Vicki is survived by her mother, Judy (Dennis) Moe; sons, Rick Mearse, Ryan (Kayla) Mearse; brothers, John (Natalie) Farmer and Doug (Nikki Manna) Farmer; sisters, Christine (John) Penkala and Tara Farmer; grandchildren, Elizabeth Mearse, Desmond Douglass, Grayson Mearse and Oliver Mearse; step-mother, Brenda Farmer and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Turner Farmer; husband, James Mearse; daughter, Angela Mearse and sister, Susan Kathleen Farmer. Those who had the pleasure to know Vicki personally were truly blessed. She was smart, kind, and loved to laugh. Vicki loved crafting whether it was for a gift or her home, she put her heart into it. She was the oldest child of her parents and cherished every bit of being a big sister. She was also a cousin to many and enjoyed keeping in touch with those living near and far. Vicki never met someone she didn't like and usually developed a friendship with many people in her life. Vicki studied hard and worked her way from her Associates degree up to a Masters in Business and Accounting. She encouraged everyone to keep studying and was a role model to many young moms knowing the challenges to raising a family and going to school. Vicki truly enjoyed going to work, rarely finding it a chore. She got the opportunity to work a few different industries whether it was environmental, factories, finance, or medical, she learned and grew her talents. Her accounting ability was always offered to family for advice and the dreaded tax season. She got the chance to work in the exciting work scene of Chicago. But after a bad injury from a fall in Chicago she took the opportunity to re-evaluate her work and family life. She was offered a dream job closer to home with an orthopedics group. Vicki couldn't stress enough on how much she loved this job! This job allowed her more time to visit and enjoy her grandkids and family. Her husband Jim and her had more opportunity to travel in recent years, meeting new friends from all places around the globe. Not long ago they got to snorkel in the Caribbean. Vicki knew what it was like to be down on her luck, so she always tried her hardest to help people out. Her big heart not only helped people, she had an extra big heart for animals. There was no animal she didn't like. Her nieces and nephews couldn't wait to show Vicki their newest pets knowing they had an ally in her. One time in the middle of winter, she chased down a homeless man with a dog and gave him her last $5 because she felt God encouraging her. She had seen him everyday for a week and never again after that night. She laughed saying he probably bought a lottery ticket and struck it big. I truly hope you had the opportunity to meet Vicki and get to know her! If you did, you met an earthly angel that is now a heavenly angel. Gone too soon and she will be missed. She took a piece of everyone's heart with her. If you get a minute this day, this week, or this year, pick up a glass of Oliver wine (Sweet Red to be exact) and raise a glass to Heaven. Cheers Vicki, till we meet again in Heaven. Funeral Ceremony will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at 10:00 am at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage, IN 46368.
