Robert J. Rains

Robert J. Rains, age 64 of Portage, IN passed away on Friday, August 14, 2020. He was born on August 24, 1955 in Gary, IN to Robert and Thelma (Cain) Rains who preceded him in death. Robert is survived by his wife/companion of 30 years, Tara Reilly-Rains of Portage; son, Rodney (Kim) Neiss of VA; grandchildren, Tyler and Hannah Neiss; two sisters, Carol Matthews of Omaha, NE, and Diane (Mike) Lowery of Valparaiso, IN; one brother, Steven (Laura) Rains of D'Iberville, MS; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was a hard worker and spent his last 15 and 1/2 years working at Lovings Heating and Cooling. He was a lifetime member of the Harley Owners Group and a 30 year member of the American Legion. At the age of 43 he went to college and earned a Technical Certificate in Industrial Technology and graduated with honors. Robert was a member of Phi Theta Kappa (most prestigious honor society) and was on the National Dean's List. Robert loved spending time with his grandchildren, riding his motorcycle and playing cards. He enjoyed watching football and visited many stadiums across the USA. Memorial Services for Robert will be held at 12:00 pm on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN 46368 with Pastor Scott Jones officiating. Memorial visitation will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020 from 9:00 am until the time of services at 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
