Obituary written by son, Michael Demonja. Miles C. Demonja passed away Friday March 25, 2022 at home. Miles was a husbend, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Miles was a Lifetime resident throughout the region finally residing in Valparaiso. Miles graduated from Gary Lew Wallace High School in ’55 and played football for the Hornets, earning him a scholarship to Indiana University. He played football for the Hoosiers for three years until a knee injury his Junior year and his Scholarship was cut. After school, like all other able bodied men, he served his country as a National Gard for 2 years. Well serving his duty he played football for the Guard all over the country against and with the top ranking NFL recruits. Miles went on to become Gary Policeman for 20 years representing the positions of patrolman, vice squad, Detective Narcotics Bureau and Patrol Sargent. Miles’s police career involved him in some of the biggest crime cases in the country. Miles became a highly respected officer of the law by battling crime in the City of Gary. In the streets of Gary from the year of ‘64 to ‘84 and after, many knew him as “Mr. Miles.” Miles was also a Local Businessman as the owner of Morrows Nut House in the Southlake Mall. He also worked as an Investigator for Child Protective Services for many years. Miles was preceded in death by his Father Mike Demonja; Mother Irene Demonja; and grandson Nathan Bond. Miles is survived by his wife of 60 years Joan Demonja; his son Michael (Barbara) Demonja; two Daughters Lorri (Brad) Slaydon; and Renee Johnston. Grandsons: Michael (Cody) Demonja; Miles (Ashley) Demonja: Jason (Kattie) Bond; Brandon (Jamie) Bond; Auston (Erica) Slaydon; Alan Johnston. Granddaughters: Erin (Carson) Ackley; Alexius (Auston) Garbison. Great Grandchildren: Logan, Audie, Dallas, London, and Jax Bond; Piper and Miles Demonja, Emma Ackley. Sister Darlene Maxwell.
