Gary A. Lowry Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Gary Anthony Lowry, age 68 of Michigan City, IN passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at Franciscan Health after a short but brutal battle with COVID-19. He was born on November 23, 1951 in Michigan City, IN where he lived his entire life. Gary graduated from Elston High School, class of 1970. He worked as a proud steelworker for 32 years for Bethlehem Steel. Following his retirement, Gary worked at Fiberbond for a number of years before celebrating a second retirement. Anyone and everyone who was lucky enough to meet Gary knew what a great man he was. Gary was known as a social butterfly who never met a stranger. Strangers became friends and friends became family. He was known for his wise words, his love for family and his comforting hugs.He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, no matter what. Gary married the love of his life, Sharon (Gallant) Lowry, on February 22, 1985. She preceded him in death in June 2020. He is survived by his children, Chris Lowry (Erica McLean), Monica Lowry, Jessica (Troy) O'Brien; stepson, Mark (Jen) Anderson; grandchildren, Briana and Evan Lowry, Jordan and Ryan Slavutsky, Scarlett O'Brien; close friend and brother in-law, Rick (Tammy) Gallant; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Willie Jo McGirr; father, Lester Lowry; granddaughter, Allison O'Brien; brother, Jimmy Lowry; sister, Brenda Sobecki. Private family services will be held at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Chesterton, IN. A graveside service will be held in the spring, when it is safe for Gary's friends and families to hold a proper celebration of his life.
