Drew Charles Rhed, age 53 of Chesterton IN passed away Sunday, January 31, 2021 in Chicago IL after a 6-year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on July 11, 1967 in Michigan City, IN. On January 8,1994 Drew married the love of his life, Gretchen (Ryan) Rhed. Drew is survived by Gretchen and their children Lucas, Gabrielle, and Dominic; his mother Linda (Tofte) Rhed; brothers Matthew (Shannon) Rhed and George Rhed, mother-in-law, Ingrid Ryan; brothers-in-law, Jeffrey Ryan and Regan (Jessica) Ryan; lifelong best friend, Paul Tilden; many aunts and uncles, 8 adored nieces and nephews and many extended family and close friends. He was preceded in death by his father, George H. Rhed and father-in-law, William “Larry” Ryan. Drew was a 1985 graduate of Chesterton High School and the Trojan spirit burned bright in him. He graduated from Purdue University in 1989 with a degree in Finance and from Valparaiso University in 1999 with a Doctorate of Law. He was the owner and sole practitioner of RhedLaw, a local firm specializing in estate planning and bankruptcy but always open to helping anyone in need of legal advice including a number of local clubs and organizations. Drew was a very active member of the Chesterton community and was so proud to call this town home. He was a long-time Board member of the Westchester Public Library. He especially loved the Indiana Dunes. Drew was an avid runner who passed on his love of running and sports to his children. He was also a devoted practitioner of the culinary arts whose favorite part was sharing the gifts of his kitchen with family and friends. He was the epitome of a good friend and neighbor. All who knew him felt his love and generosity. He truly cared about the well being of those in his sphere. He was involved as a father, coach, mentor, and loud cheerleader to not only his own children but countless kids who appreciated his presence and treasure those memories. Due to COVID restrictions, Mass of Christian Burial will be privately held at St. Patrick Catholic Church where Drew and his family have been members for many years. Visitation, open to the public, will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2021 from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, 517 Broadway, Chesterton. COVID restrictions allow only 50 people into the building at one time. Please be prepared to wait outside. Everyone must wear a mask at all times and social distancing will be enforced.
