Dr. Harold S. Gresham Jr. Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Dr. Harold S. Gresham Jr. of Portage, Indiana at age 75 years old, passed away suddenly on Friday, July 15, 2022. He was born on October 5, 1946 in Michigan City, Indiana to Harold & Zoe Gresham. He was a loving husband to his wife, Victoria, a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Harold was an inspiration to all who knew him. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. All who knew Harold enjoyed his heartfelt conversations and unique stories. Harold was a man of faith and had a passion for the Lord. He spent much of his days studying the Bible and finding comfort in God's spoken Word. Harold was a kind and gentle romantic who loved spending time with his family, friends and his furry family, Bascha and Vinnie. Harold graduated from Michigan City Elston High School in 1966, where he was an All Star Football Player for the Red Devils. After graduation, he proudly served in the military. He earned a Business Degree from Indiana University, Fort Wayne and earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic from Palmer College of Chiropractic in 1985, where he then went on to be a prominent healthcare provider for his community before retiring. Beyond his high school football days, Harold was a competitive power-weight lifter having won the Indiana State title 13 times and in 1979 was ranked 3rd nationally and 6th in the world for bench press. He held 1st place titles in the Master Deadlift throughout the region. In 1980, he became the Mid-American Champion and was ranked 2nd nationally. He was a guest opener for Lou Ferigno, aka "the Hulk" during a weight lifting competition prior to his fame. By 1983, Harold was ranked 5th in the United States. By 2005 at age 59 years old, Harold entered his last local competition and won 1st place for the Men Over 50 Years Old natural bodybuilding category. In recognition of his outstanding achievement in the field of athletics, Harold was inducted into the Michigan City Elston Red Devil Athletic Hall of Fame in 1990. He went on to become a coach-trainer for the football team at Indiana University, Fort Wayne. Harold was an avid golfer and also received many awards for the sport. Later in life, Harold studied martial arts in traditional Shotokan Karate and became a skilled karateka. Harold served as a precinct committeeman for the Porter County Republican Party and formally served as a State Republican Delegate. In 2010, he was a candidate for the Portage Township Trustee Board. Harold is survived by his loving wife, Victoria Gresham. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold & Zoe Gresham, Larry McCoy (brother), Diane (Gresham) Davis (sister), and David Gresham (brother). His siblings include Sharon Jackson (Robert), Joetta Walsh (Jack), Krystine (Gresham) Glosser and Michael S. Gresham (April). He is survived by his children and step-children, Philip Gresham (Kelly), Joshua Henry (Larisa), Anna Aimutis (Jason) and Gabrielle Del Real (Rafael) and several grandchildren and extended family. The family will observe a Celebration of Life Ceremony at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home, Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Ave., Portage, IN on Wednesday, July 20th. The Public may pay their respects to the family at 5:00 PM with a Memorial Service commencing at 6:00 PM. Dinner details to be announced at the ceremony.
