David F. Krause

December 10, 1943 - January 15, 2022

David F. Krause, 78, of Greenwood, formerly of Chesterton, passed on to his heavenly home Sat., January 15, 2022. He was born December 10, 1943 in Gary, IN to Carl A. and Dorothy (Bolles) Krause, as the eighth of 10 kids. A 1962 Jackson High School graduate, David served as an MP dog handler for the Army in the Vietnam War. After returning, David met his wife, Diane Wright, whom he married on December 23, 1968. They remained married for 53 years, sharing four children and six grandchildren. David worked as an electrician at U.S. Steel Gary Works for 46 years until retiring in 2013. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod, attending most recently Concordia Lutheran in Greenwood. In his free time, David loved the outdoors, most especially Indiana Dunes State Park where he logged countless miles hiking each and every trail. During retirement, David loved spending time with all of his family and most especially, his grandchildren and dogs Peanut and Buddy. David is survived by his wife Diane; son Jeff Krause; daughters Dawn Krause, Jennifer (Shane) Higgins and Kari (Tim) Reinhardt; brothers, Richard (Carolyn) Krause, Jerry (Wilma) Krause and Albert (Elaine) Krause; sisters, Barbara Bottorff, Evelyn (Gerry) Pisowicz and Gail (Ed) Hiscox and six grandchildren; Sabrina Krause, Brooke Krause, Sean Higgins, Lucas Higgins, James Reinhardt and Luke “Otto” Reinhardt. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Dorothy Krause; brothers Carl "Sonny" Krause and Lesley Krause and sister Carol Glancy. Visitation and funeral service will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. respectively, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso, IN. Interment will be held at Chesterton Cemetery immediately following church services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to curemds.org for the Duplication Syndrome Fund.
