Basil B. Robertson

October 13, 1926 - January 27, 2022

Basil B. Robertson, age 95 of Portage, IN passed away on Thursday, January 27, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 13, 1926 in Ash Flats, AR to Asa and Edith (Gibson) Robertson. Basil is survived by four daughters, Loretta Bolton, Karen Panayotovich, Julia (Terry) Klingensmith, Salena (Darrel) VanCleef; son, Basil G. (Angela) Robertson; five granddaughters, Amber (Jason) Moore, Heather McMurray, Nerissa (Mehmet) Ataman, Holly (Ryan) Taylor, Rachel (Tony) Rossi; five grandsons, James (Sharon) Wetzel, Asa Robertson, Jeremy (Ashlee Stanley) Klingensmith, Jakob Van Cleef, Brady Van Cleef; twelve great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren; his sister, Rosalee Welch; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Hattie Robertson; his parents; eight of his siblings; and his granddaughter, Jenipher Wetzel. Basil was a United States Navy WWII Veteran. He was a Local #1 Structural Ironworker for 34 years and helped construct the Chicago skyline. Basil enjoyed his family and circle of close friends. He liked working with his hands, loved gardening and working on his flowers and yard. Basil was a strong, soothing presence and will be greatly missed. Funeral Ceremony will be held on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at 11:00 am at Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home Portage Chapel, 6941 Central Avenue, Portage, IN 46368. Burial will follow at Heritage Cemetery, Portage, IN. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 31, 2022 from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
