Barbara Jean (Chester) Eagen, age 79, of Valparaiso, IN, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, June 22, 2022, surrounded in love by her family. She was born August 28, 1942 to John & Florence (Skeens) Chester in Pulaski, VA. Barbara is preceded in death by her father, John Chester; mother Florence Chester; husband, James Eagen. Barbara is survived by her daughter, Rhonda (Mark) Ciesielski; son, Jim (Shannon) Eagen; grandson, Aaron (Alicia) Ciesielski; granddaughter, Alicia (Tristan) Pearman; granddaughter Alexa Ciesielski; granddaughters, Aubrey and Amelia Eagen; great granddaughters, Harper & Hadley; great grandson, Elijah. Barbara…Barb, Bobbie, Nano - was a loving wife, mother, grandmother & great grandmother. She was deeply devoted to her family. She was married to her husband Jim, the love of her life, her high school sweetheart, for over 50 years. Barb was the most beautiful, loving, generous & selfless person. Her love and wisdom is a legacy that will forever be in our hearts. The courage and strength she had through all the ups and downs will never be forgotten. So fragile and delicate to the end, yet you still touched everyone who came into her life. To know Nano was to love her. She was the Mom, Nano & friend everyone wishes they had. Her family was lucky to have her as their own, but she was everyone’s Nano. Nano was everyone’s biggest fan & supporter & never missed an event. Her infectious smile & kind heart was recognized by anyone that encountered her. She never met a stranger. She was everyone’s #1 cheerleader. She loved fiercely! If anyone loved the babies more than their own parents, it was Nano! Nano enjoyed gardening, bird watching, cooking & baking. She enjoyed getting her hands in the dirt & making her garden beautiful. She enjoyed sharing starts from her garden with others to help them flourish. Nano cooked the yummiest food & baked the best peanut butter pie. She took great pleasure in nourishing her family with her Southern ways. She enjoyed shopping at the discount stores & garage sales & would always find the best deals. She never passed up a fruit & veggie stand. She always knew how to pick the best ones! Nano enjoyed laundry more than any person on this Earth. She did a mean load of laundry & could get any stain out of any clothing. Barb graduated from Chesterton High School in 1961. She had lifelong friends that she enjoyed spending time with. One of their favorites was lunch/dinner & gambling at the casino. Barb’s family would like to thank all of her wonderful doctors & nurses that provided her with such personal & compassionate care over the years & up to her peaceful passing. “How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” Her family knows that Grandpa was waiting for her at the gates with his arms wide open. They will take comfort in knowing that the two of them will be watching over them from above, the beautiful family & life that they built. Please keep her family in your thoughts, as they mourn the loss of their matriarch, their anchor, their Nano. They will find comfort in all of their beautiful memories of this lovely, timeless, unforgettable lady. So fragile and delicate to the end, yet she still touched everyone who came into her life.
